This show barely qualifies as a mystery/crime show. It follows a police precinct, but that’s the end of the resemblance. If you’re looking to guess the culprit before it’s revealed, this show isn’t for you. HOWEVER, this is a great comedy and worth your attention if you ever need a break from your more traditional crime procedurals.

Once turned into a zombie, Liv assists the police department by eating the brains of murder victims to absorb their memories, which will hopefully contain clues to the killer. A side effect of consuming the brains, however, is adopting aspects of the victim’s personality.
Killing Eve follows the cat-and-mouse games between a determined MI5 agent and a talented professional assassin. Each woman struggles with balancing their responsibilities and their admiration as they chase each other across the world.

The series includes several exceptional performances by actors imitating famous serial killers and the team dedicating to profiling their patterns of behavior.
Three neighbors start a podcast detailing their clumsy investigation of the death of someone in their New York apartment building. Only Murders in the Building is a wonderful comedy that spends equal time honoring the true crime genre and poking fun at it (and its audience).

Shenanigans ensue as he continues to drag his best friend Gus away from his day job as a pharmaceutical salesman and into the world of the Santa Barbara Police Department. This show is smart, hilarious, and follows the crime-a-week format of many other detective dramas. It’s light on the mystery, but highly recommended as a goofy, light-hearted contribution to the genre.
Netflix’s adaptation of the children’s book series A Series of Unfortunate Events stars Neil Patrick Harris and a series of other well-known actors. The series devotes an episode or two to each of the original books, which chronicle the unlikely and unfortunate misadventures of the Baudelaire orphans. The children must use their unique talents to outwit Count Olaf and navigate a series of incompetent or otherwise unhelpful guardians as they attempt to understand the mysteries left behind by their parents.
Scott & Bailey is a police procedural from the BBC. It features two realistic women as the primary detectives in a refreshing perspective, one where you won’t constantly be distracted thinking how is she running in those shoes?
